When it comes to wireless lighting control in Singapore, IILLUMX has quietly built a strong reputation as one of the most active and forward-thinking integrators in the market. Recently recognised as the Top Performing Casambi Integrator in Singapore 2025, the company has worked on projects ranging from Grade A offices and retail showrooms to smart car park lighting systems in major shopping malls.
The company name says it all. IILLUMX stands for Intelligent Illumination into the Future. The “illum” represents light, while the “X” points to the future. It reflects a vision of lighting that is smart, adaptable, and always moving forward.

In this spotlight, we sat down with Chee Cheng Hui, founder of IILLUMX, to learn how the company began, why wireless lighting caught his attention early on, and how Casambi is transforming the way buildings operate today.
Building IILLUMX from the Ground Up
Like many entrepreneurial journeys, IILLUMX started small. Very small.

The business initially focused on LED driver distribution, supporting lighting professionals across Singapore’s growing market. As lighting control technologies evolved, the company gradually expanded into lighting control integration and solutions.
Today, IILLUMX works across the lighting ecosystem, collaborating with project dealers, contractors, developers, building owners, and at times, end users and residential clients. Their portfolio includes Grade A offices, retail spaces, hospitality venues, restaurants, shopping malls, residential projects, and façade lighting.
In recent years, the team has also become increasingly active in smart car park lighting.

Because car parks operate for long hours, sometimes 24/7, lighting needs to balance safety, visibility, and efficiency. With the right system in place, even small improvements can make a big difference.
ILLUMX worked with LKH Electric, their project partner for these malls in the Northeast and East of Singapore. SMART LED battens were deployed in carparks, integrated with a user interface that allows operators to monitor and control the system as a Lighting Management System.
In one recent project, the difference was clear. The upgrade from conventional fluorescent fittings to LED smart battens alone delivered around 30 percent energy savings. With Casambi controls in place, along with motion sensors, daylight sensing, and scheduled dimming, the system can automatically adjust based on real usage. Lights brighten when needed and dim when areas are unoccupied, helping optimise performance over time.
Discovering the Potential of Casambi
Cheng Hui’s journey with Casambi began before IILLUMX was founded. While working in the lighting industry previously, he was introduced to the Casambi ecosystem and quickly saw its potential.
“What really stood out to me was the flexibility. Lighting control no longer had to be limited by physical wiring.”
Traditional wired systems often require complex planning and installation. With Casambi, each luminaire can be controlled independently, and the system can scale easily from a single space to entire buildings or multiple sites.
Over time, Cheng Hui also noticed a shift in the Singapore market. More developers, businesses, and lighting specifiers began recognising the benefits of wireless lighting, making adoption easier.
“That was when it became clear to me that this is where the future of lighting control lies.”
When IILLUMX was established, continuing with Casambi felt like a natural step. The flexibility and scalability of the system allowed the team to focus on creating better lighting experiences, rather than being limited by cabling constraints.
Designing Lighting Without Wiring Limitations

A Renovation That Shows the Difference
Cheng Hui recalls a recent landed residential project that highlights the impact of wireless lighting.
The property was undergoing a major renovation, and the original lighting setup was extremely basic, essentially a simple on-off switching system. During the renovation, a lighting designer was brought in to explore ways to enhance the lighting experience throughout the home. The question then became whether to install a conventional wired solution or explore a wireless alternative.
Casambi turned out to be the perfect fit.
Because the system is wireless, the team was able to upgrade the entire lighting setup without extensive rewiring. Each lighting point became a wireless control node, with motion sensors, daylight sensors, and automated schedules added to make lighting responsive to time of day, natural light, and occupancy.

With Casambi, the installation was faster, cleaner, and far more flexible.
Smarter Lighting for Building Operations

This capability is especially valuable for smart car park, where lighting needs shift constantly. In carparks, lights automatically adjust based on motion and occupancy. Empty areas dim to save energy, while lights brighten as vehicles or pedestrians enter, maintaining safety, visibility, and comfort.
By combining remote management with automation, the system balances energy efficiency, safety, and user comfort, making life easier for operators while creating smarter, more responsive environments.
Looking Ahead
Cheng Hui believes the future of lighting will be increasingly driven by data and intelligent automation.
As lighting systems become more connected, they will generate large amounts of operational data. With the help of AI technologies, this data can be analysed to optimise lighting behaviour automatically, creating more proactive and intelligent environments.
For example, lighting systems could learn patterns of human activity and adjust automatically based on real usage. Instead of relying only on fixed schedules, lighting can become more responsive, adaptive, and intuitive.
“Lighting on demand will become more important. Lights should only operate when they are actually needed.”
This shift toward intelligent illumination is exactly what IILLUMX was built around from the beginning. Cheng Hui remains confident that wireless technology will continue to play an ever-growing role in lighting infrastructure.
